Two new regional intakes of the Women in Leadership program are set to boost leadership capability and workforce participation across the Bowen Basin and Mackay. Delivered by Regional Development Australia Greater Whitsunday, the program is designed to build confidence and practical skills for women working in small to medium enterprises.

Supported by the Local Buying Foundation, the program offers a structured approach to leadership development through workshops, masterclasses and mentoring. It also embeds governance and evaluation to ensure long-term impact for participants and their employers.

Each intake includes five full‑day workshops that focus on building leadership capability through practical skill development. These sessions are designed to be immersive and hands-on, giving participants the opportunity to apply new concepts in real time and reflect on their growth.

Two targeted masterclasses are delivered as part of the program, with a strong focus on confidence and leadership practice. These sessions aim to deepen participants’ understanding of effective leadership and provide tools to navigate challenges and lead with impact.

Structured mentoring and networking are also key components. Participants are matched with experienced mentors who provide guidance and support throughout the program. Networking opportunities help build sustainable professional relationships, creating a strong foundation for future collaboration and career progression.

Equipping women with leadership skills and networks strengthens succession planning, boosts workforce participation and enhances SME performance. These outcomes align with LBF’s strategic focus on “Developing the Workforce of the Future” and reflect a commitment to sustainable regional development.
