The First Nations X Horizon program is creating a powerful platform for Indigenous women across regional Queensland to develop leadership skills with confidence and cultural integrity. Designed to uplift and connect female leaders, the program blends traditional knowledge with contemporary leadership practices, ensuring participants feel supported both professionally and personally.
The project has showcased strong engagement and early success, with the program’s co-design approach being central to its impact, allowing participants and stakeholders to shape content that reflects lived experiences and community priorities. These sessions created a safe and empowering space for women to share stories and build a locally and culturally appropriate program.
Beyond workshops, the Horizon program offers ongoing mentoring and peer support, recognising that leadership development is a journey rather than a single event. Participants have highlighted the value of connecting with like-minded women who understand the unique challenges of balancing leadership aspirations with cultural responsibilities and family commitments. This holistic approach ensures that the benefits extend beyond individuals to strengthen entire communities.
This is the second time the Local Buying Foundation has partnered with First Nations X, following the success of the previous program delivered in Port Hedland and the Pilbara. Both initiatives demonstrate LBF’s commitment to supporting Indigenous-led solutions that create lasting impact across diverse communities.
The program falls under the Local Buying Foundation’s Indigenous Economic Development funding priorities, aligning perfectly with the intent to strengthen local capability and foster inclusive economic participation. By investing in programs that empower First Nations women, Local Buying Foundation is not only supporting individual growth but also creating ripple effects across businesses, industries and communities. The Horizon program exemplifies how strategic partnerships can deliver meaningful change and advance diversity in leadership across regional Australia.
