Resource Industry Network (RIN) will deliver two transformative initiatives in 2026: the International Women’s Day (IWD) Student Ticket Sponsorship and the annual Safety Conference. These projects are designed to foster diversity, inclusion and safety excellence within the resource sector and across regional communities in the Mackay Isaac region.

The IWD Student Ticket Sponsorship will provide local high school students and teachers with the opportunity to attend Queensland’s second-largest International Women’s Day event. With over 580 attendees, this event brings together industry leaders, educators and community representatives to discuss career pathways in the resources and METS sectors, challenges and opportunities for gender diversity, perspectives on equity and inclusion, and future workforce trends. This initiative is particularly impactful for female students, Indigenous peoples, minority groups and leaders from charities and not-for-profit organisations. By connecting young people with role models and mentors, the sponsorship aims to inspire the next generation of professionals and promote diversity in traditionally male-dominated industries.

The Safety Conference is a cornerstone event dedicated to advancing workplace safety culture. Delegates will gain cutting-edge insights into mental and physical health topics relevant to today’s workplace and the workplace of the future. Key focus areas include innovative safety practices, leadership strategies for risk management and mental health and wellbeing in high-risk industries. By sharing best practices and fostering collaboration, the conference strengthens the region’s commitment to safety excellence and ensures businesses remain resilient and adaptive.

Resource Industry Network’s core purpose is to facilitate relationship building and business development opportunities, support workforce development and innovation, and drive growth in current and emerging industries, including decarbonisation. Through signature events like the IWD Business Lunch and Safety Conference, RIN helps local industry connect, collaborate and thrive, ensuring the MIW regional economy remains strong and sustainable.

Importantly, these initiatives contribute to the understanding, development and sustainable use of resources, helping regional communities become more adaptive and resilient. By preparing for future challenges and embracing opportunities, the region is well-positioned for continued growth and prosperity.
