Local businesses came together in Newman for a well‑attended March Business After Hours event, co‑hosted by the Newman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chalkwest – Budget Rent a Car Newman.

Held in the Shire of East Pilbara, the evening attracted more than 30 attendees and created strong opportunities for connection, conversation and collaboration across the local business community. The event was opened by Chamber Chair Sarah Stampfli, who welcomed guests and shared a brief update on the Chamber’s work supporting local businesses in Newman.

Chalkwest shared their business story as one of Australia’s most established Indigenous businesses, operating as an independent Budget franchisee for more than 25 years. Registered with Supply Nation and the WA Government’s Aboriginal Business Directory, Chalkwest spoke about their commitment to strengthening communities across regional and remote Western Australia, including their active support of other Indigenous businesses. Their Newman operation was highlighted as a strong example of community‑minded business in the Pilbara.

Local Buying Foundation funding played an important role in the success of the evening. By easing the financial pressure often associated with hosting events, the funding enabled Chalkwest to reinvest into the local economy. Multiple Newman Chamber members were engaged as suppliers, including venue and catering providers, a local cookie supplier and a photo booth operator. This approach supported a wider network of small businesses while increasing visibility and connection within the room.

The photo booth proved to be a highlight of the night, creating a relaxed and engaging focal point, while branded cookies added a personal touch and showcased local capability. One organiser reflected on the impact of the support, saying the turnout and energy on the night made it a standout event and expressing appreciation to the Local Buying Foundation for making it possible.

The Business After Hours funding support program continues to deliver value for the Newman business community by building capability, fostering collaboration and ensuring event spending stays local. The Newman Chamber of Commerce and Industry thanked the Local Buying Foundation for its support and looks forward to continuing to grow opportunities for local businesses in Newman.
