Over the past six months, the Local Buying Foundation has continued to make a significant impact across BHP’s operational regions, driving economic growth and capability development for small, local and Indigenous businesses. Through targeted funding, strategic partnerships, and industry collaborations, the LBF has played a key role in strengthening regional business networks and supporting sustainable enterprise development.

A highlight of the first half of FY25 has been LBF’s commitment to funding initiatives that equip small businesses with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. From business capability workshops to supplier training sessions, LBF has provided critical resources to help local enterprises meet industry standards, improve operational efficiency and participate in new opportunities. These initiatives, tailored to the unique needs of each region, have supported businesses in navigating procurement processes, digital transformation and compliance requirements.

In Western Australia’s Pilbara region, the LBF played a pivotal role in supporting economic discussions and business engagement. As a sponsor of the Hedland Economic Forum, LBF contributed to important conversations about regional economic development and the role of small businesses in shaping local economies. Additionally, LBF-backed initiatives provided businesses with opportunities to connect with industry leaders, fostering collaboration and growth.

Supporting Indigenous business development remains a core focus for LBF. Through dedicated funding streams, mentorship opportunities, and partnerships with Indigenous organisations, the Foundation has helped drive business success for Aboriginal enterprises. Initiatives such as the New South Wales Indigenous Chamber of Commerce Summit 2025 and the HORIZON Uplifting Regional Women in Leadership Program not only enhance economic participation, but also contribute to the broader goal of cultural and community sustainability.

Looking ahead, the Local Buying Foundation is committed to expanding its reach, funding more high impact programs, and strengthening collaboration with industry partners. With a strong focus on business capability building, workforce development and regional economic resilience, the LBF will continue to support businesses in unlocking new opportunities and achieving long-term success.
