The International Women’s Day Business Lunch continues to stand out as a powerful moment of connection for the Mackay region.

Nearly 600 people filled the MECC, creating an atmosphere of energy, optimism and shared purpose. While the weather kept everyone guessing, the focus inside the room was firmly on celebrating leadership, diversity and the strength of our local business community.

Attendees heard from outstanding keynote speaker, Kate Davies, and an exceptional panel who shared honest stories, practical insights and reflections that resonated across industries and career stages. Their contributions highlighted the importance of inclusive leadership and the value of creating opportunities for women to participate, lead and thrive.

As one of Regional Industry Network’s four signature major events in 2026, the International Women’s Day Business Lunch plays an important role in supporting industry growth, workforce development and long‑term regional sustainability. The event reinforces the connection between diversity, inclusion and stronger business outcomes for the region.

The Local Buying Foundation was proud to support this event and to be part of a day that celebrated progress while continuing the conversation about how we build a more inclusive and resilient future together.

The RIN International Women’s Day Luncheon continues to play an important role in recognising the contribution of women across business, industry and regional communities.

Held annually, the luncheon brings people together to reflect on progress, share experiences and strengthen connections that support more inclusive and equitable workplaces. It aligns with the global intent of International Women’s Day by focusing on practical action, visibility and shared responsibility rather than celebration alone.

The purpose of the luncheon is grounded in connection and opportunity. It creates a space for leaders, emerging professionals, business owners and community representatives from across the region to engage in open conversation and shared learning. By highlighting real experiences and diverse leadership pathways, the event helps build understanding of both the challenges women face and the progress being made across industries.

Each year, the luncheon delivers outcomes that extend beyond the event itself. Attendees strengthen professional networks, gain new perspectives and leave with insights that can be applied within their own workplaces and communities. The event supports visibility for women across a wide range of sectors, helping to challenge traditional perceptions of leadership and encouraging broader participation in business and decision‑making roles.

The luncheon has built a strong reputation over time as a valued and well‑supported event on the regional calendar. Past events have consistently attracted strong attendance and engagement, reflecting an ongoing commitment to creating positive change. As conversations around leadership and inclusion have evolved, the luncheon has continued to adapt, ensuring it remains relevant and grounded in regional experience.

The Local Buying Foundation supports the RIN International Women’s Day Luncheon as an investment in people, community and long‑term outcomes. The luncheon normalise conversations about equity and leadership and embeds them into everyday business practice. Support also signals a commitment to inclusive values and to creating environments where diverse perspectives are respected and encouraged.

For regional communities, the importance of the luncheon is particularly strong. It supports leadership development, strengthens cross‑sector relationships and contributes to a more resilient and sustainable local economy. By continuing to support this event, organisations and individuals help ensure International Women’s Day is recognised not just as a moment, but as part of an ongoing commitment to meaningful and lasting change.
