In the first SA funding round of 2024, the Regional Development Australia Far North Inc. has received approval for funding under the Micro Business and SME Capacity Building category. The program, aimed at building cybersecurity resilience, will benefit the communities of Port Augusta, Roxby Downs, and the Outback Communities Authority.

The project, running from September 2024 to March 2025, focuses on equipping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves from common cyber threats. With businesses in the Far North region facing real cyber risks, the workshop program will provide practical solutions, helping participants adopt simple yet effective cybersecurity measures.

Targeting 60 attendees across six face-to-face workshops—with online options to increase accessibility—the program covers a range of key topics, including how to identify cyber threats, what to do during an attack, and best practices for securing business systems. A facilitator with over 30 years of experience will lead the sessions, ensuring actionable advice for businesses.

By enhancing cyber resilience, this initiative supports the social value categories of Thriving Communities and a Future Ready Workforce. The program’s ultimate goal is to bolster regional economic prosperity through strengthened business operations in an increasingly digital world.
