The inaugural Newman Women’s Summit – themed “Mindset”, sponsored by the WA Local Buying Foundation, took place last weekend in Newman, bringing together over 150 women from the Pilbara Region to celebrate leadership, resilience, and empowerment. This two-day summit, hosted by the Newman Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (NCCI), showcased the extraordinary women making waves in their communities. Focused on empowering women from diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, the event will aim to inspire innovation, inclusion, and diversity at all levels of leadership.
The Summit featured inspiring keynote speakers, including Liz Behjat, former Western Australian Parliament member, Dee Teao, a former New Zealand Police Negotiator, and Sarah Lovell, a community leader and advocate. These women shared personal stories of overcoming adversity, breaking through barriers, and leading with purpose. Their voices amplified the message that leadership is not only about titles but about influence, courage, and making meaningful contributions to the community.
Kim Kinsella, Newman C-Res Business Development Advisor, captured the spirit of the event as she connected with attendees and speakers alike. “I was moved by hearing the diverse stories, from keynote speakers Arina Aoina, CEO of Newman’s Women’s Shelter, and Dee Teao inspiring us as women to take bold steps in our leadership journeys. The summit provided a great opportunity for networking.”
Sponsoring events like the Women’s Summit is part of the Local Buying Foundation’s ongoing effort to create lasting social value in regional communities. The Women’s Summit demonstrated how inclusive events can uplift and unite communities, especially in regions like the Pilbara, where Indigenous and CALD women often face unique challenges. By supporting initiatives like this, the Local Buying Foundation is making a tangible impact on the lives of individuals while contributing to the collective strength and success of the wider community.
Here’s to the continued success of the women who attended the summit and to building a future where every woman’s potential is recognised, celebrated, and realised.
