As Muswellbrook continues to navigate a period of economic transition, the Local Buying Foundation has committed funding to support the Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (MCCI) efforts to strengthen local business networks and community resilience. The funding will subsidise the Member Services Manager (MSM) role through to June 2026, with in-principle support for a second year subject to available funds and alignment with LBF priorities.

The MSM role is central to MCCI’s ability to deliver services, events and initiatives that support over 200 local businesses. From coordinating workshops and networking opportunities to managing sponsorships and growing membership, the position plays a vital role in ensuring the Chamber remains responsive and effective. As the region prepares for the closure of the BHP Mount Arthur mine in 2030 and continues to adjust following the 2023 shutdown of Liddell Power Station, the need for strong business support and representation has never been greater.

MCCI has a long-standing reputation for collaboration and leadership, regularly working with community stakeholders to promote the region and deliver high quality events. This project builds on that foundation, aiming to expand the Chamber’s capacity to meet growing demand and help local businesses adapt to changing economic conditions. The MSM will also focus on strengthening connections across the Hunter region, creating new opportunities for local enterprises to grow and diversify.

LBF’s assessment of the project highlighted its strong alignment with the Foundation’s funding priorities, as well as its potential for long-term impact. The initiative received top marks for cost-effectiveness, community impact, and alignment with LBF’s strategic goals. While Indigenous business engagement was rated as acceptable, the project was recognised for its broader contribution to regional development and business sustainability.

By investing in this role, LBF is helping to ensure that Muswellbrook’s business community remains supported, connected and ready to face the future with confidence.
