The QLD Local Buying Foundation has approved funding for the development of Artists Connect Inc.’s Five-Year Strategic Plan, supporting the growth of the arts industry in the Mackay, Isaac, and Whitsunday regions. Running from September 2024 to February 2025, the project falls under the Industry Promotion and Economic Development funding category and aims to provide a clear path forward for this emerging sector.
Beth Jackson, from the consultancy firm Artfully, will lead the project, drawing on her extensive experience, including her work on the Mackay Arts and Cultural Plan. Her understanding of the region’s arts landscape will help guide the development of a strategic plan tailored to the unique needs of local artists and stakeholders.
Artists Connect Inc., established in 2022 following community consultations, is a not-for-profit organisation committed to helping local artists build sustainable businesses. Since its formation, the organisation has launched initiatives such as the Mackay and Whitsunday Art Trails, created websites and promotional materials, and grown its membership from 150 to over 300. The upcoming Isaac Art Trail and St Lawrence Artists Retreat highlight its ongoing efforts to support creative and economic opportunities across the region.
The strategic plan will serve as a roadmap for Artists Connect Inc., helping it set achievable goals, identify opportunities, address challenges, and ensure sustainable growth over the next five years. By providing mentoring, business workshops, skill development opportunities, and promoting regional Art Trails, the organisation aims to strengthen connections between artists, local businesses, and tourism operators, creating pathways for cultural and economic collaboration.
The project will roll out in three phases, beginning with research and planning in September 2024. Stakeholder consultations, including workshops and interviews, will follow in October and November, with the drafting and finalisation of the plan scheduled for completion by early 2025. This process will ensure the plan reflects the needs and aspirations of the community while laying a strong foundation for future development.
The Local Buying Foundation support for this initiative reinforces its commitment to fostering regional growth and promoting thriving, creative communities. The Five-Year Strategic Plan will be a vital tool for Artists Connect Inc. as it continues to empower local artists and elevate the regional arts industry.
