The Local Buying Foundation has approved funding for UniHub Spencer Gulf to partner with Career Co. in delivering the Roxby Downs Career Connect program. This initiative, part of the Workforce Development funding category, aims to address a key gap in local employment services by providing tailored support for individuals who are not eligible for government assistance.

The Roxby Career Connect project will support ten local participants, helping them upskill and prepare for meaningful employment in the Roxby Downs region. These participants, many of whom have faced extended unemployment due to caregiving responsibilities or residency status, will receive one-on-one career coaching, pre-employment skills training, and direct access to local industry connections. The program will be open to those who are not currently registered with government-funded employment services and reside within the Roxby Downs region.

Through collaboration with UniHub Spencer Gulf, the Roxby Downs Community Hub (Healthy Environs Pty Ltd), and Career Co Australia, the program will offer:

  • Personalized career coaching sessions.
  • Face-to-face industry engagement with local employers and potential on-the-spot interviews.
  • An online support group, providing regular job-seeking advice.

With plans to pilot this project and potential expansion based on interest, this initiative could be a significant step toward building a more inclusive and resilient workforce in the region.

Melissa Westcott, Local Buying Foundation Chair commented, “This program is a great example of a practical workforce development initiative that makes a real difference in people’s lives. This program not only provides valuable career coaching and pathways but also directly supports the Local Buying Foundation commitment to building a future ready workforce and thriving regional communities.”
