Scone Business Development Role  The Chamber currently engages an Executive Officer 3 hours/week to deal with our social media presence, handle urgent correspondence and develop a newsletter. There is no potential to expand this position currently, even more so now with the downturn in the economy. Singleton Community Training Kitchen The initial stocking and set-up of a cafe and community training kitchen in the new Riverside Park on John St Singleton.
The cafe/kitchen is designed as an Indigenous themed training cafe for the VET Hospitality students at the High School, giving them the required practical hours to complete their course. These students are required to complete 70 hours each over the course of their training which is often difficult to source in the Singleton area. The cafe will also act as a host employer for the Work for the Dole Training program as well as catering for Community events and delivering training programs for the community.

Upper Hunter Country Tourism Website Upper Hunter Country Tourism (UHCT) is the local tourism organisation working with Muswellbrook Shire and Upper Hunter Shire to collaborate on tourism in the local area with a commitment to grow the local visitor economy. The branding Upper Hunter Country:  ‘Come on up’ is shared across the two shires. The Upper Hunter Destination Management Plan (DMP) was recently updated in 2018. The revised DMP and shared tourism strategy has highlighted several key gaps and opportunities for tourism development including the need to update the format and information on the UHCT website. www.upperhuntercountry.com to meet the expectations of visitors to the region, link to all social media applications and  to better promote the tourism business offerings across the shire.
This project is aligned with the four strategic objectives of the shared Upper Hunter Country Tourism Destination Management Plan to:
1. Increase visitor numbers and dispersal in the region
2. Extend visitors length of stay in the Upper Hunter
3. Develop new products and experiences and support existing
4. Grow the niche markets.

We have gained funding to fit out the Council built kitchen with commercial cooking equipment, but we will require some extra funding to start up the Social Enterprise Entity to run the Cafe. This will be overseen by a Board.

MCCI Covid-19 Business Support Program

During the COVID-19 restrictions it is imperative at this critical time that the MCCI be able to maintain its service levels to members. The MCCI have developed a program that they plan on rolling out to Muswellbrook businesses and members over the next six months to offer support through new ways due to the restrictions of Covid-19. The two parts to the program are –

1. Inter Business Support Programs – After a successful pilot, MCCI plan to facilitate sessions via Zoom to engage businesses from different sectors to connect, learn and share information that has helped the participating businesses. The sessions will be for small groups and will be facilitated by Muswellbrook business, Sincerus Group, who will help MCCI with the session coordination and followup with the participating businesses with the key information shared. These forums will provide an important opporunity for attendees to network and learn from each other. These forums will also help develop data of what businesses are needing to create the targets webinars explained in the third part of the Program.

2. “Locals Supporting Locals” – Development of marketing and digital engagement through social media to promote local businesses and the ways that they are diversifying in the current times. This will include live video clips of business hit hard by COVID-19 and who have been forced to change their trading hours or business model to adapt. The videos include the owner describing what they are doing and asking for support from the community.
